There are still a few tricks and tips you might find useful! Back to Top Search Help Decide what type of search you want: RENTNET® offers a variety of search tools in order to make apartment-finding easy. You can search by city & state (basic search) or use an advanced search to search by address, college, zip code or property name in order to find your new place. If you would like to proceed to one of these searches, just click on the links above. Then, you will receive instructions specific to your search. Decide what options you want: Try to decide whether you are looking for a lot of different types of apartments, or a very specific type. Your search results are going to be very narrow if you have a lot of "must have" amenities (features) checked. We recommend that users first do a search in their desired area with little or no "must haves." Then, after you have an idea of what is available, go back and get more specific. Back to Top How do I use "Power Search?" Power Search is the Java Applet that allows you to revise your results on the fly.
Back to Top Search by Neighborhood This search option is only available for the following cities:
Back to Top Contacting Properties Once you have completed a search, RENTNET® offers you two convenient ways to contact properties-by phone or e-mail. We have provided the phone number of the listings on the results and listings pages in order to allow you to make immediate contact with the manager or owner. You also have the option of sending a direct inquiry from our site by clicking on the "Send E-mail" icon next to each listing on the results page. This will take you to a form that allows you to specify the type of unit and move date and automatically includes your contact information. Once you have made your selections, click on the "Submit" button and your inquiry will be sent directly to the property. Back to Top Contacting Multiple Properties Once you have completed a search, you will see a button at the top of your results page that says "E-mail multiple properties". Click on this button in order to see a list of properties that can be contacted using this feature. All are automatically selected unless you decide otherwise. If you want to eliminate a property that is listed, click on the box in front of the name and the property will not be included in your e-mail. After you have made your selections, click on the "Submit Query" button. You will now be taken to a page that allows you to select the unit type and move date, as well as enter a specific question. The form already includes your contact information, so when you are through filling in the specifics just click on the "Submit" button and your inquiry will be sent to all of the selected properties. **Please Note: If you don't see a property you're interested in or if the property cannot be contacted, please return to your search results and contact by telephone at the number shown. Back to Top Mapping from Results Page Once you have gone through the search path you will have the ability to map your listings from the results page. Click on the "Map This List" button (HTML) or the "Map Top 40" (Power Search) at the top of the results page and you will be taken to a numbered map showing the locations of the properties that matched your search. If you would like to view the brochure page and get specific information regarding a certain listing, just click on the number on the map or the corresponding property name in the list following the map. Troubleshooting & Q/A Q: Do I have to pay for RENTNET® services? A: No, RENTNET® services are free. However, in competitive rental markets we have partnered with providers in order to add additional listings. Therefore, if you are looking for an apartment in the San Francisco, New York, or Seattle areas you may only receive partial information for some listings. In order to get the complete listing and contact information you can sign-up with the featured apartment finding services and pay their one-time fee. Then, you will receive detailed information on each listing from our partner. Q: What is the "Power Search"? A: The "Power Search" is an ideal tool for people that have a Java enabled browser and want to perform multiple searches. In using this tool, you can refine your search criteria without having to reload the entire page. This filter on the fly feature allows you to quickly change the apartment features, rent prices, community features or other information without the hassle of using the "Back" button. The "Power Search" feature is not available in San Francisco, Seattle, New York, and Chicago. Q: Why is my current building not included in my search results? A: It is our goal to have every apartment community in the nation in our database. However, there will always be some apartment communities that do not yet advertise with RENTNET®. We are sorry if your search was unsuccessful, but encourage you to check back, as we are adding new properties every day! Q: Why do some properties not have photos? A: RENTNET® offers every property the option of including photos and floor plans, however, not every property chooses to do so. Q: How can I make my matchlist load quickly? A: While refining your search you are asked to select options in several categories including minimum and maximum rent, bedrooms, and view. "View" has a pull-down menu which allows you to choose "fast with photos" or "fastest without photos". Fastest without photos will allow you to reach your listings quickly, and you will still get to view pictures of the properties on the -detailed listing page. Q: Why am I having trouble printing? A: As a general note, if you do not allow the page to load completely, the following pages may not print. You might try starting your search over and then waiting for each page to load completely before attempting to print. We now offer a simple way to print your listing-right from the brochure page. Simply click on the "Printable Brochure" button and you will be taken to a printer-friendly version of the page. Then, proceed through the print process. If you are using the Java Power Search, you should use the "Print Matches" button in the Power Search toolbox in order to go to a printable version of your results. Q: Why can't I find any properties in Canada? A: RENTNET® is currently working on expanding our database to Canada and other countries. At this time, searches are limited to the United States. Q: I click Submit and nothing happens, why? A: You are most likely using Windows 3.x with an older browser, or an outdated version of America Online. Some older browsers do allow for certain functionality, and this will cause buttons to misbehave. Q: Will RENTNET® perform a search for me? A: At this time, RENTNET® does not offer this service. Instead, we give you the easiest, most user-friendly tool to find the perfect apartment on your own. Back to Top Company FAQ's & News Q: Can I link to your site? A: Yes, please!
